HUMM Ocean Labs is dedicated to protecting Victoria’s coastlines by monitoring underwater noise and reef health. We strive to be stewards of the marine environment and to raise awareness of the vital role sound plays in the lives of sea creatures, helping them communicate, find food, and stay safe. By building stronger community connections, we aim to preserve the ocean’s beauty and resilience for generations to come.

Research
We use Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) techniques to collect underwater sounds, helping scientists and councils improve sanctuary health and support thriving ecosystems, healthier fish populations, and greater biodiversity.
Community Engagement
We work hand in hand with the community to develop interactive sensory educational tools that showcase beauty and significance of preserving marine soundscapes.
Data Transparency and Access
We’re creating a Marine Sound Atlas here in Victoria (one of the world’s first). It will provide open-access insights to researchers, offshore projects, and conservation groups, helping them better understand how human noise affects ocean health.
